Funeral Resources

Here are some things to think about when planning for the next step.  We hope this helps you in some way.

If cremating your child:

Is there a charge for cremation?

Is there a place your child can be cremated and buried without cost to you?

If you are picking up the ashes to keep at home, how soon will they be released to you?

Can you purchase a special box for your child’s ashes?

If preparing a funeral for your child:

Which funeral home is closest to your home?  Do they have plots in the baby section open?

How much is the burial plot?  The funeral service?  All other costs entailed in burying the child?

Casket?  Headstone?  Do you have to buy the casket or headstone from the funeral home where your child is buried?  There are other options.

Does the funeral home charge to pick up the baby from the hospital and to prepare for burial?

Are there specific times the funeral home performs ceremonies?

Can you bring in an outside person to perform the service?

Do they have someone they recommend to perform the service?

If you wish to hold your child one last time at the viewing, is this something they allow?

If you want to have footprints or handprints made or receive a lock of hair from your child, will they take care of this for you?

Do you want someone to sing or say a bible verse at the funeral?

Do you want to bury anything with your child?  (picture, stuffed animal, letter)

If taking your child somewhere else for burial:

If you want to transport the baby to another state or country for burial, will they perform the necessary paperwork and/or embalming process so you can do that?

Does your child have to be in a casket for transportation?

How much does it cost to fly the child to your final destination?    Funeral home pays the airline - the airline ships both prepaid or collect (to a funeral home where the baby is flying to).
